Leadership Team
Allan Fries – CEO & Founder
Allan was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Shortly after, he moved to Calgary, Alberta in Canada, where he spent much of his youth. Getting his start as a laborer in the oil fields of Northern Alberta, he worked as a welder’s helper, ran loaders and cranes, surveyed land, and performed carpentry.
When it came time to go to college, he was drawn to Colorado State University due to its proximity to great skiing. He studied industrial construction management and went on to start i2 in 1999.
Allan believes that his advancement throughout the course of his career is a direct reflection of the mentoring he received from his mother, supervisors, and business partners. Working alongside some of the most amazing people has helped shape his character and resolve to pursue success in his business endeavors.
As i2’s founder, Allan ensures the firm maintains the company culture everyone has worked so hard to develop over the last 20 years. He advises and counsels new employees and the management group on implementing, “The i2 Way.” By adhering to the core beliefs and values of the company, he believes i2 will continue to prosper long after his involvement is complete. He regularly assists with business development and investigates new markets for i2 to enter.
Outside of the office, you will find him enjoying the great outdoors: skiing, fishing, hiking, golfing, or watching a beautiful Colorado sunset over the mountains.
He is involved in many area civic organizations in a variety of roles, including:
- Food Bank of the Rockies, where he was a board member for more than 20 years
- Central City Opera House, as a former chair of the Architectural Committee and Properties Committee for more than 10 years
- Commerce Bank, on the advisory board since 2014
- Over The Edge, where he has rappelled down 1600 Glenarm Place to raise money for the Cancer League of Colorado
Scott Farrell, LEED AP – President & Partner
After years of traveling to Colorado to visit family and skiing over the holidays, Scott made the easy decision to move from Wisconsin to Denver in March of 2000.
Growing up, his dad owned a design-build construction company. By the age of seven, he was already pushing brooms on job sites, solidifying his passion for construction and entrepreneurship
Scott attended the University of Wisconsin – Madison, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil and Environmental Engineering with a focus in Construction Management
From the moment he was hired on as an assistant project manager in 2000, he had his sights set on a path to ownership at i2. During his years of learning and helping to shape the company from the ground up, he rose from assistant project manager through the ranks, finally culminating as president in 2016.
As president, Scott’s strategic direction leads the organization forward. While embracing his roots of growing up in a small family business, he leads I2’s culture of viewing people as family and understanding that, “What got you here, isn’t going to get you there.” Over the course of his career, he has lived out the values of integrity and respect in all of his business interactions.
When Scott isn’t at the office, you can find him spending time with his family in the great outdoors: fishing, skiing, playing hockey or golfing.
Scott is an active member of the Denver community, including serving:
- On the Denver Advisory Board
- As board president for Family Homestead
- As a member of the board of trustees for the Bonfils Blood Center Foundation
Nathan Kugler, LEED AP – Vice President of Operations & Partner
As early as Nathan can remember, he was spending time with his dad on job sites. Being exposed to the construction industry early on led him directly to Colorado State University where he received a bachelor’s degree in construction management.
After his graduation from college, he joined i2 in June of 2003. Originally hired on as an assistant superintendent, Nathan spent time in the superintendent and project manager roles, before becoming vice president of operations and partner in 2016. Currently, he is responsible for overseeing all departments and operations for i2, including supporting project teams and reviewing company financials.
Integrity and how it is demonstrated to employees and clients are most important to Nathan. At i2, he loves how everyone looks out for their client’s best interest and lives out their family-centric culture from the top-down.
As a native of Colorado, Nathan loves the outdoors and enjoys the laid-back nature of living in Elizabeth, Colorado. On the weekends, you can find him coaching his oldest daughter’s competitive softball team.
Jason Buerger, LEED AP – Project Executive & Partner
From a young age, Jason has had a deep interest in shop, technical drawing, and math. During his first semester of college, he took a construction management course and immediately knew it was the right path for himself.
After graduating from Colorado State University, Jason served as an assistant project manager for an ENR ranked top 100 design-build firm in Florida. He then moved to Chicago to work for a commercial general contractor, where he spent three years managing industrial and tenant improvement projects.
It wasn’t until the economic downturn of 2008, that he decided to move back to Colorado. Jason was hired on as a project manager for i2 in 2009. Since then, he has spent years leading their project management group and serving their clients’ needs.
As director of operations and partner, Jason ensures all projects incorporate various levels of executive leadership. Jason values respect and is intentional about creating an atmosphere where i2’s team members feel comfortable, have fun, and enjoy their work.
As a Colorado native, he loves spending time playing team sports in the great outdoors. When he isn’t at the office, you can find him spending time with his wife, raising their two children.
